This is my first blog post for Rookery Equine so you’ll have to bear with me!
I’d like to start by saying another massive thank you to everyone at Rookery Equine for the opportunity of joining such a fabulous team.
A few weeks ago, my 5 year old, Pumpkin, qualified for the Blue Chip Winter Championships held at Hartpury (which we didn’t expect!) We had taken her to a local venue to gain some more experience and with it being her first jump off class we didn’t expect her to do so well by jumping double clear and finishing second!
That’s when the hard work began, as she was still a little unfit and inexperienced, I put together a program for her over 4 weeks which included fitness and strengthening exercises, trips to spooky venues and also days off which she spent playing with her brother in the sand pen.
After jumping at her final show before heading to Hartpury, I could tell how much she had come on and how much fitter she had gotten and we were finally ready!
We set off the night before as we had an early class and to give her time to settle in and have a look around as she had never been to a stay away show, let alone somewhere as amazing and busy as Hartpury - luckily for us she’s the most laid back 5 year old ever!
Tack cleaned, Pumpkin scrubbed, course walked and warmed up, it was our time to enter the arena where she then produced the most loveliest double clear, we weren’t the speediest but what more could I ask for - we were all smiling from ear to ear, and it was made even better by the fact our friend had bred her and she was our first home produced one!
After all the excitement Pumpkin is enjoying a couple of days at home (we now have turn out!) before heading to South View to try and get two more double clears to qualify for the Discovery Second Rounds as she has already qualified for the British Novice - fingers crossed that next time I’ll be writing to you it’ll be about the second rounds!
